Urumqi  was called Dihua ever, is the capital of Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region of the People's Republic of China, in the northwest of the China, and the region's politic, economic, culture, science, education,financial and transportation center. Urumqi is the transportation and communication hub of connecting the north to south of China, and  also is the hub between the mainland of China to the Central and West Asia and Europe. Urumqi is the bridgehead of Western China of the second Eurasian Continental Bridge and an important gateway to China's opening to the west, it is the emerging cities which comprehensive strength ranked number6 in China, but also the largest city of five countries of Central Asia. 

Urumqi locates in the center of the Eurasian continent, the middle of the northern foot of the Tianshan Mountains, southern edge of Junggar Basin. The Urumqi’s western and eastern borders with the Changji Hui Autonomous Prefecture, south adjacent with Bayinguoleng Mongol Autonomous Prefecture, southeast borders with Turpan regions, it is an important city in central of Eurasia. 

Urumqi whose name means "Beautiful Pasture" in the Mongolian language of the Dzungar people, is the largest city in western China's . Since the 1990s Urumqi has developed economically and now serves as a regional transport node, cultural, and commercial center. 

In Urumqi, the east of Turpan-Hami Oilfield, south of Tarim Oilfield, north of ZhunDong oilfield, west with kelamayi oilfield. Underground coal reserves in more than one hundred tons, the total thickness of coal seams can be 80 meters, known as "coal city at oil of sea". Downtown has famous Eight Scenes, such as Hongshan, Jian Hu, Yue Wei Cao Tang. In the outskirts , such as Nanshan scenic tourist resort. 

The largest city in western China, Urumqi has earned a place in the Guinness Book of Records as the most remote city from the sea in the world. It is about 2,500 kilometers (1,600 mi) from the nearest coastline as Urumqi is the closest major city to the Eurasian pole of inaccessible, although Karamay and Altay, both in Xinjiang, are closer. The city has an administrative area of 10,989 square kilometres (4,243 sq mi) and has an average elevation of 800 metres (2,600 ft). 

The location  

43°4052N 87°1952E in the southwestern suburb of Urumqi (Urumqi County) was designated by local geography experts as the "Center Point Of Asia" in 1992, and a monument to this effect was erected there in 1990s. The site is a local tourist attraction. 

Climate 

In Urumqi a semi-arid climate prevails, with very large differences between summer and winter, warm summer, with a July daily average of 23.7 °C (74.7 °F), and very cold winter, with a January daily average of 12.6 °C (9.3 °F). The annual average temperature is 6.90 °C (44.4 °F). The city is semi-arid, with its summers slightly wetter than its winters, yet sunny weather is much more likely in the warmer months, and relative humidity is the lowest during summer. With monthly percent possible sunshine ranging from 30 percent in December to 70 percent in August and September, the city receives 2,523 hours of bright sunshine annually. Its annual precipitation is about 290 millimetres (11.4 in). Extreme temperatures have ranged from 41.5 °C (43 °F) to 42.1 °C (108 °F).

Urumqi total land area in 12,000 square kilometers, 65,430 hectares of arable land, accounting for 5.55 percent of the total land area, of which 990 hectares of paddy fields, 4618 hectares of vegetable field, 56,872 hectares of irrigated area, 2950 hectares of mountain upland; 1007 hectares of existing garden, accounting for 0.09% of the total land area; 57,712 hectares of forest land, accounting for 4.89% of the total land area; 804,679 hectares of pastureland, accounting for 68.23% of the total land area; 30,702 hectares of city, towns, villages and industrial land, accounting for 2.6% of the total land area; waters of the total area of  36,204 hectares, accounting for 3.07% of the total land area; 178,412 hectares of unused land, accounting for 15.13 percent of the total land area.

Based on 0 o’clock November 1st 2010 6th demographic census shows that the city’s resident population is 3112559,compared with the 5th demographic census 0 o’clock 1st November 2000 the population of 2081834,increased 1030725 in ten years,for 49.51% growth.The average annual growth rate was 4.10%.All the city’s resident population,the male is 1610775,account for 51.75%;female is 1501784,account for 48.25%.The city’s population ,Han is 2331654,account for 74.91%,all minority ethnics is 780905,account for 25.09%.

Urumqi is the second economic zone of Asia-Europe continental bridge, an important economic center in western China. Urumqi adjacent with Central Asian countries, since ancient times it is an important hub of communicating commerce from East to West, which also has a strong radiation effect on Central Asia. 

In 2013, the GDP of Urumqi reached to 240 billion yuan, according to comparable prices, an increase of 15.0% over the previous year. Among them, the first industrial added value stood at 2.7 billion yuan, with an increase of 6.2%; the second industry added value stood at 93 billion yuan, with an increase of 14.8%; the third industry added value stood at 144.3 billion yuan, with an increase of 15.3%. In 2013, Urumqi had completed 5.903 billion yuan of output value of agriculture, forestry, animal husbandry and fishery, with an increase of 6.5 percent over last year. Among them, the agricultural output value was 2.914 billion yuan, with an increase of 4.2 percent; forestry output value of 373 million yuan, with an increase of 19.4 percent; livestock production value of 2.27 billion yuan, with an increase of 6.6 percent; fishery output value of 96 million yuan, with an increase of percent; 250 million yuan of output value of agriculture, forestry, animal husbandry fishery and services, with an increase of 25.9 percent.

Secondary industry

In 2013, the added value of total industrial enterprises stood at 79.4 billion yuan, with an increase of 14.7 percent over the previous year. In all industries, the added value of non-oil industrial stood at 48.93 billion yuan, with an increase of 21.8%; petroleum industrial added value stood at 30.47 billion yuan, with an increase of 5.2 percent.

In 2013, Urumqi fixed societal asset investment of 127.159 billion yuan, with an increase of 25.9% over the previous year. The total retail sales of social consumer goods reached 97.005 billion yuan, with an increase of 16.3% over the previous year. In 2013, Urumqi had received 19534400 tourists (including day trips) from domestic and foreign, with an increase of 11.9 percent over the previous year, among them, the reception of foreign tourists were 352,300, up by 3.3 percent. The total annual tourism income reached 27.673 billion yuan, with an increase of 12.2 percent, including 1.35 billion yuan of international tourism revenue, which had an increase of 3.6%.

By the end of 2013, the city's various school students up to 659000, down 0.1 percent from the previous year. Among them, colleges and universities students were 138000, with an increase of 1.5 percent; general secondary vocational school students were 86800, fell by 1.6 percent; general secondary school students were 1694000, with an increase of 0.3 percent; pupils were 198700, down by 0.8 percent; kindergarten students were 65600 people, fell by 0.7 percent; special education students were 500, with an increase of 2.0 percent.

Xinjiang University (XJU), located in Urumqi – the capital city of Xinjiang in the northwestern region of China – was founded in 1924. In recent years, XJU become the national sole cardinal comprehensive university in Xinjiang; listed as one of the universities in 211 National Project. In addition, the university is the first institution for higher education to receive utmost priority support from both the People’s Government of the Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region and National Education Ministry.

Xinjiang University of Finance and Economics

Xinjiang University of Finance and Economics was established in 1950. It received the master-accredited program in 1998 and MBA program in 2001 respectively. 2009 witnessed its grant of EMBA program, which is the only one in Xinjiang. At present, the university consists of 20 schools and departments, with 32 disciplines for undergraduates, 5 disciplines for first level Master programs, 27 disciplines for second level Master programs and 9 disciplines for Professional Master programs. In addition, it has gained 4 national major projects, 2 national Quality Courses and 6 provincial key disciplines.

In 2011, Xinjiang successful bid to host the 13th National Winter Games in 2016. According to introducing, at the end of 2010, the autonomous region sports bureau officially submitted an application to the State Sports General Administration, which bid to host the 2016 Winter Games. Eventually, with excellent snow and ice resources , support from all levels of government as well as detailed reporting preparatory work, Xinjiang stand out from Inner Mongolia, Hebei, Liaoning and other competitors.

Guanghui Flying Tigers basketball team is an evolving growing team with young and vibrant. Jiang Xingquan who was former national team coach, Wu Xinshui who was former bayi basketball coach, had coached Guanghui basketball team two seasons. Their serious attitude, rigorous style and training, has provided valuable experience for team building and development. The current coach is Cui Wanjun. 

Xinjiang Tianshan Leopard Football Club is located in Urumqi, Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, China,it is a professional football club, founded in 2014. Its predecessor was Hubei Huakaier Club which founded in 2012. Early 2014, Xinjiang Football Association successfully received Hubei Huakaier Club’s a qualification, which won the following year in a league to qualify.
